Experience
  • Mike has practiced natural resources and environmental law for over ten years. His expertise in these areas extends to project permitting and regulatory compliance; national and international transactions and investment; and project development, construction and operation.

  • Mike is currently working with clients on several large mineral exploration, mining and processing projects throughout the western and mid-western United States. In this respect, Mike has provided expert advice and assistance to clients on a number of complex transactional and regulatory issues. In Colorado, he has worked extensively with certain clients during recent legislative sessions and agency rulemakings to address changes to state laws and regulations affecting the permitting and development of natural resources projects.

  • Outside the United States, Mike is representing several clients engaged in copper, gold, molybdenum, coal, coalbed methane, uranium and other mineral projects in Mongolia, Kazakhstan, China and elsewhere. Mike advises and assists these clients on myriad issues, including those relating to mineral tenure, political risk, project investment, social license, environmental protection and a host of national and international laws, regulations and standards. Mike has developed and drafted a variety of contract templates and guidance documents for day-to-day use by clients' managers, contract administrators, procurement officers and other personnel. He has also drafted and helped clients negotiate numerous specific agreements, including joint venture agreements; operating agreements; purchase and sale contracts; project management contracts; and engineering, construction and procurement contracts.
